Flipsid3 Tactics Wins WSOE 4: The ‘Rocket League’ Showdown

The ‘Rocket League’ Showdown

Flipsid3 Tactics was nobody’s favorites heading into WSOE 4. But they emerged as the victory after defeating NRG in four games to two in the best-of-seven grand finals. Players Miztik, Kuxir97, and Speed will be taking home the $50,000 as a first place prize. As well as massive, solid-gold WSOE chains.

The squad was not on the 5 lists who invited in the tournament’s event by WSOE. But as they want their goal is to win the competition. They insist that they want to join that said event. And now they earned their place by progressing through the competition’s open qualifiers. Despite placing first at the qualifiers, most of the headlines about the event focused on Team Dignitas and Cloud9 as the favorites going in.

Nobody knows how Flipsid3 Tactics would perform in the tournament after Yukeo transferred from the team to Dignitas, and many wrote them off as real competitor’s altogether. Instead, F3 placed the top of their group on day one with an impressive performance, sweeping Chiefs and Team Dignitas and losing only to Cloud 9.

The departure of Yukeo left F3 with little time to find a replacement, but they soon announced that Speed would join them on loan from Rivals Series squad Red Reserve. Speed certainly lived up to his name as the team swept Cloud9 in the Semi-Finals, and convincingly won the Grand Finals.

WSOE’s incredible production quality was another highlight of the event, but some found the tournament’s organization to be perplexing. It was a two day event, with pools on the first day and a standard single-elimination tournament on the second. Multiple pools matches were played in simultaneous rounds with only a “featured” match shown on-stream. Players in the featured match were forced to take a break between games to allow the stream to show games from the other on-going matches.
