Team OG Dota2 Win Top Prize in The International 8

It is official that OG Dota2, a history has recently been made in the world of gaming at the biggest Dota 2 eSports tournament ever, The International 8 (#TI8) held at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Canada. Dubbed as the most lucrative event, The International is an annual event showcasing the best Dota 2 teams around the world battling it out for top honors and a cut of its huge prize money. And this year, gamers across the globe witnessed the remarkable victory of the European squad, OG Dota winning over $11.2 million as their part of the $25.4 million crowd-funded purse – which marks the biggest prize ever awarded in the history of eSports. Lifting the Aegis of Champions for the first time as well live on stage, the TI8 Champion team consists of renowned veterans and newcomers whom are now sure to be considered the real OG’s indeed (we just have to say that!) and they are: ‘Topson’, ‘ana’, ‘Ceb’, ‘JerAx’ and original ‘N0tail’.

Against everyone’s expectations, OG’s run at The International 8 was little less than astonishing. In a thrilling series that went the distance in a best of five, OG took their first TI win in an incredible fashion and outfought their returning rival, PSG.LGD hailing from China who won against them back in 2015. The Grand Finals is buzzed as the biggest upsets of all time considering PSG.LGD was a favorite going into The International 8 via the Dota Pro Circuit.

It was a difficult and unpredictable battle for both teams, as the Grand Finals was the culmination of an event full of long games, unique drafts, and intense team fights. The battle between these two teams saw OG opened strongly on game one while PSG.LGD took the advantage in games two and three, with several unusual hero picks. Just when hopes seemed to falter for OG, they came back through a brilliant turnaround in game four and a dazzling display by ‘Topson’, with a Zeus picked out of nowhere in game five, resulting OG to be back in the lead and claim Dota’s biggest title.

Congratulations OG, the new champions of Dota 2!

P.S. there was a lot of drama too, follow the hashtag #TI8 and read on, here’s one:
