DokeV is Finally Here

DokeV is Finally Here

South Korean game developer Pearl Abyss first teased DokeV back in 2019  and then in 2021 during Gamescom. DokeV is a very stylish open-world creature collecting game filled with mystery and adventure. Originally marketed as an MMO like Pearl Abyss’ flagship game, Black Desert Online, they have since decided to make the game into a better single-player experience.

If you ever heard a game was a creature collector, your brain would automatically shift to the Pokemon series. It’s basically a reflex at this point because Pokemon did make the genre their own. DokeV has a lofty goal ahead of them despite still not having a concrete release date years after the initial tease. But with what we’ve seen so far, DokeV just might have what it takes to become a masterpiece.

The World of Dokebis

DokeV Trailer

In the vast world of DokeV, humans live alongside the Dokebi; whimsical creatures that range from anthropomorphic dogs and cats to robots that resemble alarm clocks. These creatures gain power from people’s dreams and are based on Korean folklore. As for the world, you can befriend a plethora of different kinds of Dokebi to help you on your adventures.

As seen in the gameplay trailer, you can travel the large metropolis of DokeV with bikes, hoverboards, rollerblades, and even an umbrella hang glider of some sort. On the edges of the city, there are snowy mountains and sunny beaches that we hope will also be explorable. The world of  DokeV is an aesthetic place with vibrant colors and fascinating creatures. Combat appears to happen in real-time and you can summon your different Dokebis to assist you in attacks with a variety of weapons like bows, hammers, and a shark gun.

On the story side of things, not a lot is known about the lore and why you as the player are trying to befriend the Dokebis. Empowering the dreams of humans is the most basic pillar of folklore right now. According to traditional Korean folklore, the Dokkaebi are Korean goblins that love interacting with humans by helping them or playing tricks with them. Whatever direction Pearl Abyss decides to go with, will be highly anticipated as DokeV remains a game that people will patiently wait for.

On top of collecting and fighting alongside your Dokebis, there will be a multitude of minigames and side quests that will be available to keep you busy in the world of DokeV. Player customization in terms of combat abilities, outfits, and many more is promised by the devs during the game’s full release.

DokeV is looking to be a promising creature collector set in a vibrant open world. Though we don’t know much else, we can’t wait to hear more from Pearl Abyss and DokeV in the coming years.
