The 7 Scary Games That Still Give Us Nightmares

The 7 Scary Games That Still Give Us Nightmares

Here are the 7 Scary Games The Best Games to Keep You Up at Night

Horror games have kept unwitting players up at night after an unfortunate scary gaming session even though their parents warned against it. Spooky games evolve through the years as technology improves but we will never forget the original games that struck us to our very core. These games will stick with us for not only being extremely fun but also giving us a scare that we will never forget for the rest of our lives.

Let’s take a look at 7 of the spookiest video games that taught us fear over the years.

#7 Slender: The Eight Pages – Simple and Scary

Slender – YouTube

We’re starting off with a painfully simple game but one with an extremely effective scare record. Slender has you roaming around a dark area scrounging for 8 random scraps of paper. You know how it goes, the more pieces of paper you collect, the more aggressive Slenderman hunts you down. The tall dapper man in a dark suit stalks you without fail and it slowly builds to a climax until you collect all pages or he gets to you first. Slender was responsible for many Let’s-Players screaming their lungs out when it launched in 2012.

#6 Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly- Twice the Scary Photo Opportunities!

The greatest sequels build upon or completely evolve past that original. Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly, by all measures, is a fantastic sequel. The 2nd game in the ghost-hunting camera-toting horror franchise masterfully crafts an eerie world and story for players to run, cry, scream, and fight through. The overall character design and the creepy decrepit village is an overwhelming improvement over the original.

#5 P. T. – A Magnificent Hit and Run

P.T. – Game Grumps – YouTube

P.T., while technically not a full game, deserves its spot on this list much like any other entrant. The short game demo was meant to serve as a precursor to a Silent Hill remake featuring the combined geniuses of Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro. P.T. has players walking down the same hallway as things slowly begin to crumble around them. Unfortunately, we never got to play the promised Silent Hills game but P.T. provided any player willing to challenge it with boundless scares and screams.

#4 Amnesia: The Dark Descent – The Guaranteed Scream Generator

AMNESIA SCARY REACTIONS (and funny) moments with Subtitles! w/ PewDiePie EP3 – YouTube

The truly scary horror games leave their players with no means to defend themselves. Amnesia masterfully corners the player in the blinding darkness as a terrible presence chases them relentlessly. Amnesia succeeded in creating an engaging horror game experience without the need to focus on combat systems or weapons. Instead, you have to traverse a creepy area while making sure you keep your wits about.

#3 Silent Hill 2 – Just Beyond the Fog

SILENT HILL 2 – Pyramid Head First Encounter Scene (4K 60FPS) – YouTube

Silent Hill 2 is yet another example of an amazing sequel. Many players have succumbed to the sheer terror brought on by the original Silent Hill but its sequel offers a vastly superior and terrifying experience. Silent Hill 2 makes you question yourself with its gripping psychological storyline and shocking visceral imagery.

Some of the scary games out there are also available on Steam. Buy Steam Wallet Codes on Wallet Codes now and make sure to keep your lights on. Exclusive P POINTS rewards are given for registered Wallet Codes users to stand a chance to score FREE game vouchers!

#2 Dead Space – Where No One Can Hear You Scream

Dead Space- Scariest Scene – YouTube

The games on this list all have one thing in common. Players will never forget the absolute sense of fear that consumed them as they tried to play through. Dead Space does this in a unique way by isolating you in space surrounded by countless dead bodies and violent aliens. The game’s true value lies in its amazing enemy design and how it relates to the storyline and the levels you fight through. Trust me, after playing Dead Space, you’ll want to curb stomp any corpse on the ground for fear of being jumped by a sneaky Necromorph.

#1 Resident Evil – Nothing Beats the First

Resident Evil Remastered First zombie scene – YouTube

Resident Evil now has 7 sequels and countless spin-off titles. Each game in the franchise offered varying levels of horror but absolutely nothing will beat the one that started it all. In the original, you play as either Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine as they solve puzzles and mow down zombies in a spooky mansion. Despite taking the role of members of an elite squad of the local police force, nothing can prepare you for the horrors in the Spencer Mansion. Beyond all of the memorable moments in the first Resident Evil and in the many games that followed, the first Zombie cutscene will forever remain a staple in horror video games even if it was with PlayStation 1 graphics.

Each year brings new horror games and with it, brand new scares and nightmares. However, it doesn’t hurt to take a look back at some of the most iconic horror games that helped shape the genre. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to play some non-scary games.
