The first Dota 2 Major for the Dota Pro Circuit 2018/2019 season event, the Kuala Lumpur Major just wrapped up where 16 teams worldwide battled it out for the $1.000.000 prize pool and 15,000 DPC points for The International (TI) 2019. The tournament took place at the Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil and we were there with our Wallet Codes’ partner U Mobile.

The Kuala Lumpur Major was certainly a huge event. A press conference was held on day 1 with the Chief of Sports Of Astro, Lee Choong Khay, PGL esports CEO, Silviu Stroie, CEO of Imba TV, Weirong Shen and Malaysia’s Youth and Sports Minister, YB Syed Saddiq bin Syed Abdul Rahman all representing the prominent enthusiasts in Malaysia’s esports community. YB Syed Saddiq shared his excitement and discussed the future of esports in Malaysia as well as The KL Major being a stepping stone towards redefining the gaming industry in Malaysia. Malaysia is one of the 6 biggest esports nations in South East Asia and has the potential to be the region’s hub for esports.

“Exciting time for Malaysia. For the first in history of Malaysian budget we have special sector for eSports, and maybe we might have our own eSports Arena Center at the same time, our very own esports City. To ensure that when people think of Malaysia, people will see that we are the leader in Southeast Asia in eSports” – Said, YB syed Saddiq.

Vitrus.Pro Versus Team Secret At The Finals

The event kicked off with a bang with crowd favorites, Team Secret and TI8 runner-ups, PSG.LGD battled it out for the win for the first match. It was an intense battle and Team Secret ultimately declared the victor after a 2 match win in a best of 3 matchup but at the end of the tournament on day 3, Russian team, Virtus.pro claimed the title and became the champion of the first Major of the season by beating Team Secret in a five-game thriller at the Kuala Lumpur Major on Sunday, 18th November. With their victory, the Russians take home the US$350,000 (RM1.47 million) prize.
