Revealed at its “Future of Gaming” event on Thursday, Sony showcased their latest console alongside a slew of games that includes the return of familiar characters mixed with brand-new titles. Amongst the bestselling PS4 releases, two sequels were among the standout game announcements – Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Horizon: Forbidden West.
Sporting a fresh white design, with blue light and black accent colors on its sides, the PS5 looks sleek. It’s been 7 years since the PS4 came to market that Sony released a new next-gen console.
The PS5 will come in two versions: A standard model and a slimmer machine that’s “discless”. You can watch the reveal by clicking the image below:
Sony also displayed gear like a controller charging station media remote, a Pulse 3D wireless headset and an HD camera. For now, it’s unclear whether if this gear is bundled or optional to add to. Sony CEO Jim Ryan said the company will reveal the pricing and launch date for the PS5 later on.
Returning characters hit the scene
Sony showed off more than two dozen games, 9 of which were from its game studios, including Insomniac Games, which made the acclaimed Spider-Man game for PS4. The new Spider-Man game will be a follow-up that centers around Afro-Latino teen Mile Morales rather than Peter Parker.
We are also reintroduced to some familiar faces. Aloy from Horizon: Zero Dawn will continue her journey in post-dystopian America in the sequel title, Horizon: Forbidden West. International assassin Agent 47 returns in Hitman 3, IO Interactives stealth series, to bring a conclusion to the World of Assassination trilogy.
Even classic PlayStation characters like Ratchet and Clank (Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart) and Sackboy (Sackboy: A Big Adventure) marked a surprising return. Beyond these PS5 exclusives, there is also a wide array of innovative titles that will surely make full use of the PS5’s gaming experience.
