DOTA 2 Abilities

Let’s talk about Valve’s long-standing Dota 2 and establish that it is not for the weak-hearted. Multiple layers of different mechanics in this dense game scare most casual players away.  You could play the game for 100 hours and still not understand what’s happening on your screen most of the time. Dota 2 is a crazy deep game with a fan base that will stand with it through the years. If you’re a newbie looking to get into Dota 2, prepare for a frustrating but satisfying learning curve that will test your sanity and skills. Here are some of the most creative and complex abilities that really set Dota 2 apart from other MOBAs in the scene.

Chen’s Holy Persuasion/ Meepo’s Divided We  Stand

Dota 2 Abilities

Controlling one hero is already quite the challenge in Dota 2 or any MOBA for that matter. But these two take it to the next level. Chen can take control of multiple units with his Divine Persuasion. You can add different types of units with unique abilities to your personal army. Each one is controlled individually for maximum efficiency. Meepo’s Divided We Stand adds a total of up to 4 clones of your hero that have all of his abilities. Chen and Meepo are some of the hardest heroes to play in Dota 2 because of the insane amount of micro(management) that they need to maximize their potential.

Invoker’s Sunstrike

Dota 2 Abilities

Invoker’s Sunstrike is a global spell that can have deadly and catastrophic effects on the enemy if used properly. After a slight delay, you can deal a huge amount of pure damage anywhere on the map. The damage, however, will be split among all enemy units caught in its small radius. So dealing a killing blow on an enemy hero trying to run for dear life takes an immense amount of game sense that takes years (yes, real lifetime) to master.

Techies’ Landmine and Remote Mine

Techies are one of the most unique heroes in Dota 2. Techies don’t hit the enemy with their attacks and aren’t even present during team clashes. A Techies places invisible mines around his enemies’ path to protect his base. You need a lot of foresight to play this hero properly and even a lot more patience. If you mess up and the enemy just destroys your mines after revealing them with True Sight, then your hero becomes useless real quick.

Hoodwink’s Bushwack and Windrunner’s Shackle Shot

In Dota 2, trees can be your enemies. Especially against heroes like Windrunner and Hoodwink. Shackle Shot and Bushwack are way more effective against targets that are near or perpendicular (yes, this is a thing) to a tree. So great awareness of surroundings and the terrain also goes a long way in playing around these woodland tricksters. Oh, there are also abilities and items that create trees in Dota 2 so that’s a whole new level of mechanics to put into consideration.

Marci’s Rebound

Vector targeting was only recently introduced to Dota 2 as if there weren’t already enough complicated mechanics in the game. Marci, the popular mute from the Netflix Dota 2 anime, quickly made it into the game. Her Rebound is a long-distance leap that allows her to close the gap or run away from opponents using vector targeting.  It is no easy task to use a precisely aimed Rebound while dragging around your mouse with vector targeting.
